cookies and "cake" for a bridal shower

We just had a bridal shower for my brother's future wife.
The theme was a garden party.
I can't take credit for the idea of flower cookies in pots,
that goes to my friend and co-worker Amy Morrison!
These turned out pretty well.
It was my first time making a large amount of cookies like this,
so I wasn't sure how it would all turn out.
It did take about a week to complete.
I made about 68 cookies in all.
Each pot had 5 or 6 cookies in them.
I liked the look of the plastic flower pots rather than the terra cotta ones, but after I brought them home I ran into a problem...
the cookies were heavier than the pots!
So quick thinking...I bought some river rocks
and put them in the bottom.
I'm happy to say that none of the pots tipped over!
They were used as favors as well,
and each guest seemed to enjoy taking one home with them,
there wasn't one left in a pot!
I also made a "cake" out of (Nautica) towels.
They worked out nicely, not too big and bulky.
I didn't want large towels since I was putting small
kitchen gadgets around them.
I was rather pleased with the end result.
The ribbon matches our bridesmaides dress too!

July 4th cookies

So I've been wanting to make cookies.
With birthdays and showers abound I thought I'd give it a go for July 4th.
I was not disappointed with my first result.
However, you do learn from your mistakes,
and I learned from these.
They definitely looked better than they tasted!
I put almond extract in both the cookie dough and the icing.
It was too much and gave them a rather pungent
kind of taste, something just was not right.
After my husband Sam had a taste,
he agreed, too much almond.
So I decided to take it out altogether and just use vanilla.
Much better!
Ethan thinks so too!
Infact, as we were coming down to breakfast he asked me "Cookie?"
Of course I gave him one! ;)

Getting Better...

After Kate's shower, a friend at school asked me if I would make her a diaper cake for one of her friend's baby shower that was coming up.
Of course I agreed, anxious to try it again.
I picked the colors pink and brown.
I thought that would be really cute and those colors would look nice together.
When I called her to ask if those colors were okay to use,
she couldn't believe that I picked the exact colors they were using for her friend's baby shower!

Baby Shower for Kate and Leah

Here is the first diaper cake I made for my teammate and good friend Kate.
We had a baby shower for her at school.
We decorated the library complete with a clothesline full of baby clothes for "Miss Leah."
I thought I would give the diaper cake a try
and I think it turned out pretty cute,
it was also really easy to make!

I also made this princess basket complete with princess bear towels, picture frame and bath products.
